French Exchange

This text was published in the La Gagnerie Club (a tennis club in Saint Herblain, near Nantes, France) newsletter in May 2015. From 4th to 11th July three French Junior tennis players will be participating in an exchange with 3 Juniors from our club.

Translation of the text:

Cultural Exchange with St. Anne’s-Waterford Tennis Club

As part of the town twinning between Saint-Herblain and Waterford (city in the South-East of Ireland), we are offering a sporting, linguistic and cultural exchange with the tennis club in Waterford.

Juniors from our club, aged 15 to 18 years old, have the opportunity to go to Ireland for one week to stay with host families in Waterford at the start of July. Later on in August the Irish will be hosted in France.

This initiative allows us to go beyond tennis in our club. This exchange provides the opportunity for the participants to experience another country, to create strong links with the juniors in Waterford and to participate together in sporting and cultural activities. Furthermore, this trip will allow the participants to improve their English: with English classes being provided each day, the highlight of this exchange will be integration into an Irish family.

This is a first and we hope to renew this exchange every year.

This year Clément, Léandre and Maxime will be part of the exchange: enjoy your stay lads.

(Note to Saint Anne’s members if you are interested in participating in this exchange next year contact

Inter Firms - Parking

Overflow car paring available in Saint Patrick’s Hospital is available during Inter Firms. Approximately 200m from the gates of Saint Anne’s Tennis Club.

Enter Saint Patrick’s Hospital through the main entrance and turn right. Parking is available in front of the front building, down the side; parallel to Saint Patrick’s Way and in front of the hospital at the back. The parking is a mere 4 minute walk from the club gates.

This goes without saying but please park responsibly:

  • Do not park on grass
  • Do not block rights of way
  • Do not block other vehicles.

Parking outside the club on Saint John’s Hill and down Grange Park Avenue causes problems for local residents. Please avoid parking in these areas.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Munster League Finals

The Munster League Finals take place this Sunday 12th April. this is one of the biggest events of the tennis year in the Munster calendar and members are encouraged to come up to the club to view great tennis. Help is also welcome on the desk and in the kitchen. Play starts at 9.30am and continues for the day with second round games starting at around 1pm.

Senior Ladder

We are introducing an online ladder to replace the current ladders both singles and mixed. These will be available in your EBOOKING ONLINE account and in the Kiosk in the club bar.

The ladders will run in exactly the same way with same existing rules but instead of entering your scores on sheets on the club notice board you will enter them online on your own device or in the kiosk in the bar. To enter the scores you will need your ebooking username and password.

To access the ladder log in to Ebooking by clicking:

on the home page.

Then log in:

Select Leagues on the right:

Then select either Singles Ladder or Mixed Ladder from the drop-down:

Please add your email address to the Manage Account part of your EBooking profile. Your mobile number will be added by the club administrators in the coming weeks unless otherwise directed by you to omit your contact details from your profile.

If you have any questions please contact the office.

Waterford City Saint-Herblain Twinning

Dear Members,

Waterford City is twinned with the city of Saint-Herblain in the Nantes region in France. Various local business groups, cultural, educational and sporting organisations have established links in this part of France since 1982.

Saint Anne's-Waterford Tennis Club in partnership with Waterford-Saint Herblain Town Twinning Committee has recently been in contacted with a tennis club in Saint-Herblain with a view to establishing a twinning arrangement.

We would like to begin an exchange targeted at junior members aged 15 to 18 years old, with an interest in tennis (all levels welcome) and learning French. It is hoped that the first exchanges will take place in the summer of 2015. The parents of interested members must be willing to host their French counterpart, of similar age, in their home in Waterford. The arrangement will be reciprocated in France.

In both locations and depending on numbers there will be group language lessons in the morning and group tennis lessons in the afternoon. The duration will be one to two weeks.

If interested and for further details please contact me by email:
